Cloves: The Power Spice
Small but mighty, cloves have been one of nature’s most celebrated spices for thousands of years, and it’s easy to see why.
Rich in eugenol, a naturally occurring compound, and packed with antioxidants, cloves have long been a staple in both traditional wellness practices and everyday kitchens around the world.
People love adding cloves to their routine in many ways: clove tea, clove water, homemade mouthwash, or simply popping one into their mouth – chewing & swallowing. However you use them, they bring bold, warming flavor and a wealth of natural goodness to your day.

CLOVE TEA
Ingredients:
- 3 whole cloves (or a few more if you like it stronger. Be careful, it can go ‘medicinal’ if you use too many)
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp honey (optional)
- 1/2 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 2-3 green cardamom pods (optional)
Instructions:
- Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan.
- Add cloves (and cinnamon stick if using) to the boiling water. Reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let steep for 5 additional minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger the flavor.
- Strain into your favorite mug. Stir in honey if desired. Sip warm and enjoy.
Tip: Add a slice of fresh ginger or a squeeze of lemon for an extra wellness boost. Best enjoyed in the morning or before bed.
CLOVE WATER
Ingredients:
- 5-10 whole cloves
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 lemon, sliced (optional)
Instructions:
- Add cloves to a glass jar or pitcher.
- Pour water over the cloves. Add lemon slices if using.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight for best flavor and potency.
- Strain and sip cold or at room temperature throughout the day.
Tip: Make a batch the night before and sip it throughout the next day. Don’t reuse the same cloves more than twice – they lose their potency.
CLOVE POWER MOUTHWASH
Ingredients:
- 8 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 tsp grey or red salt
- 3 drops peppermint essential oil
Instructions:
- Bring water to a boil. Add cloves and cinnamon stick. Reduce to a low simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let steep for 20-30 minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger the rinse. Aim for a deep amber color.
- Strain out the cloves and cinnamon stick completely.
- While still warm (not hot), stir in the salt until fully dissolved.
- Let cool to room temperature then add peppermint oil and tea tree oil. Stir well.
- Swish 1-2 tablespoons around your mouth for 60 seconds. Spit out. Do not swallow.
Tip: Store in a sealed glass jar in the fridge for up to 5 days. Shake or stir before each use. For an even stronger batch, add an extra 2-3 cloves and steep for a full hour. Do not swallow.
